> Perceptions of China <

Despite the rich history of the country over the centuries and the remarkable progress and contributions made to the world, it appeared to me that the majority of people's lifestyle in the Republic of China has not changed much from the Dynastic period. Intemporality seems to be, in some sense, the Chinese people way of life with the incongruity it implies when we look at this leading and growing country from an economic point of view. With these photographs, I want to show my perception of the everyday life of Chinese people in large cities. The monochrome tone is an assumed choice to focus on the essence of each scenes. Photographs taken in Sichuan and Anhui provinces. R. Dejarnac (c) 2018.

> Nipponshi-dori <

Nipponshi-dori represents the imaginary street in Japan where these authentic photographs were taken. This neologism was created to establish a unity in space for all those images and could be translated as "the street of a Japanese city". My photographs represent an open window on a different world. Everybody can interpret them differently and can travel his own way. R. Dejarnac (c) 2016-2018.

> Spirit of Japan <

The idea behind this series of photographs is to showcase the culture, the tradition, and the history of Japan from the perspective of minimalist objects or scenery depicted in black & white photographs. The monochromatic tone translates the timelessness the Japanese civilization is plunged into for thousands of years. R. Dejarnac (c) 2016-2018.

> True illusions <

At night, a city behaves completely differently than during daytime. We can hear the sound of our steps echoing in the empty streets. Everything is only shadows, impressions, illusions... The darkness combined to the fatigue accumulated during the day blur our vision of reality. It makes us witness events in slow motion. Real events? Or was it just pure fantasy? We are floating in between dream and reality. Life becomes furtive... This photographic series is articulated in the style of filmmaking often met in the post-World War II era : the film noir. Crime dramas with stark high-contrast lighting effects, tilted camera in pure Expressionistic style, and a cynical, noir (anti-)hero presenting a moral ambiguity, a fatalistic outlook, and an alienation from the society in a bleak atmosphere. This collection of analog photographs, shot in Prague streets, shows the thin border between fiction and reality and reveals that a fictional story can be easily created from real facts... and vice versa. R. Dejarnac (c) 2015.
