Nipponshi-dori

Nipponshi-dori is a neologism created by the author for the purpose of this series. It is based on words that could be translated as Japan (Nippon, 日本), city (shi, 市) and street (dōri, 通り) to form the fictitious name of a what could be the universal street that can be found in any large city anywhere in Japan. Its is built in resemblance with famous Tokyoite streets such as Takeshita-dori in Harajuku, Kappabashi-dori in Ueno or Harumi-dori Avenue in Ginza with the latter being an extensive source of inspiration. All the photographs presented here were taken in Nipponshi-dori street and capture furtive situations in the everyday life of Japanese megalopolis inhabitants in the style of street photography.

This photographic series was made during several stays in Japan over the period (2014-2019) with a Leica M6 and Kodak films.
